A Campaign Built on Trust and Inclusivity
Larry Nostrant’s Mission
My campaign is grounded in the belief that government should work for all Idahoans fairly and honestly. If the 2026 session of the legislature is any indicator, the current legislators are driven by selfishness and retribution. They have continued to slash every agency budget, except the sacred calf of the School Voucher plan in order to reach a required balanced budget. In one case, they are reducing the Department of Lands budget because bonuses were paid for outstanding effort in the Wildlands Firefighting section. In the Idaho National Guard the legislators said non-commissioned national guard men and women were "Professionals" and did not need educational assistance. While it is true of most officers and pilots, the rank and file of the National Guard are younger and earn substantially less in their civilian jobs than do the command staff.
MY GOALS ARE:
- Promote an affordable life for Idahoans 1. Help homeowners through market adjustment of the Homeowners Exemption for primary residences. Why use ever inflating sales values for taxing properties of those who are not selling their homes? 2. Repeal the sales tax on food. With current, ongoing inflation in the cost of food a typinal family of four has seen their grocery bill increase by around $300 per month. This equates to about $20 a month in additional taxes to the state at the same time the store owner and suppliers are making more profit.
- Get K-12 education funded at a level where the State is not the laughing stock of the Nation. Most notably by rescinding the cash give away that is the Homeschooling cash gift. Why should the State be willing to give 10 TIMES the money to homeschooled child that they grudgingly provide to traditional schools for that same child?
- Promote apprenticeship, mentorship and technical trades programs. When meshed with reasonably well-prepared secondary school students, these programs can provide a growing workforce to replace the old farts like me.
- Reduce some restrictions and increase incentives in part-time jobs for high school students. This will instill a work ethic and provide a sense of worth in students willing put the effort forth.
- Protect and preserve our Federal Public Lands. Outdoor recreation is the foundation of the Idaho Experience. This foundation will crumble if these lands are fenced in and locked up by greedy outsiders, turned into private playlands by a wealthy few, and natural resource extraction companies hoping to make a quick buck off their holdings. Frank Church had it right!
